During the performance a great idea is to set up a simple black fabric over the side of a door or tacked to the side of a wall.
Between scenes take each actor and take their headshot. If an actor plays multiple roles be sure to capture them in each costume and hairstyle.
While Shooting:
- Keep your lighting warm
-Be sure to check for shadows on your subjects face, avoiding high contrast (unless it fits the character)
-Keep your aperture as low as possible (f/3.5 - f/5.6) your subjects face is what is important here
-If the character has props they always carry, include them in the photo

-Encourage the subject to embody their character in their facial expression, have them say a line or two
While Editing:
- Bump up that contrast we want the black background to be as dark as possible
-Using the mask tool in Adobe Lightroom zoom in and sharpen the subject's eyes and mouth (simply select the area you want to sharpen and slide the sharpen toolbar up to 20-50
-Using the same mask tool soften other unimportant details in the photo
